1. What song lyrics can you be caught singing off-key to?
Right now I am so obsessed with Lana Del Rey’s new song, “Love.” Watch the music video. It is so nostalgic and relevant. Girl has a knack for hitting me right in the feels. I’m also really into Motown. Not new Motown (no offense to Lil Yachty). I’m talking about Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Temptations, Al Green, etc…it is impossible to be in a bad mood when listening to Tammi Terrell on my pink velvet Crosley. I also can’t get enough of Leon Bridge’s album, Coming Home. Leon, if you’re reading this, please make more music!
2. How do you feel empowered as a woman?
I love this question because it is something that I think about every single day. Every woman does things to feel empowered– whether it’s wearing sky-high heels, rocking a studded leather moto jacket, running a business, or driving a Porsche. These are all fantastic! But I feel most empowered when I can empower others. I recently started an online feminist book club called The Contrary Library, and since then I have had so many women (and even a few men!) message me and tell me that my efforts to educate others are important and inspiring. I’ve even had a few people reach out to me just to talk about very personal experiences. That is the most gratifying feeling in the world. I truly feel that my purpose in life is to be a person that can heal others and make the world a safer, healthier place for women to thrive. I am immensely excited to utilize my time with V+V and make the most out of this awesome experience.
3. Who most inspires your sense of style?
Like any true Gemini, I live a double-life. I currently work full-time at J. Crew so my style is very much what you would expect– pastels, especially baby pink, are essential to my wardrobe. My associates know right away to put things aside in my size when they’re unloading the new product. A customer even once called me Elsa Woods (my hair is “Elsa blonde” apparently)! When I’m not at work, I am all about neutrals and comfort. You’ll catch me in the same oversized turtleneck in four different shades of beige and Vans slip-ons. Bralettes in every material and style are a great way to change up a basic white tee. I wouldn’t say any one person inspires me; I let my mood dictate my fashion, and vice-versa.
