uncharted territories: styling black + brown

It’s no secret that the lady bosses of the Velvet + Vinyl girl gang are sincere advocates of an all-black wardrobe. But what’s the fun in that?

I recently purchased a new pair of brown, boot-styled clogs, and this addition to my wardrobe has proved to be an exciting challenge of styling my favorite color with a color I rarely wear.

Today I wore my favorite black Brandy Melville dress with my new shoes and a vintage necklace that once belonged to my mother.

There are so many reasons this necklace complements this outfit. The gold medallion brings out my gold jewelry and creates a warm look to that outfit that effortlessly emphasizes the shoes. It brings together the contrasting colors in a way that is cohesive and congruent. It’s also a special staple of mom’s jewelry collection, which makes it additionally special.
