Confidence Series: Caitlin Reddington

Welcome to the first part of our Confidence Series. We’ve had the pleasure of talking to the awesome woman behind the blog Tiny Trendsetter–Caitlin Reddington. I had the fortunate pleasure of meeting her in NYC for Teen Vogue Fashion University, and we were able to stay updated on our own adventures thanks to social media. *all photos courtesy of Caitlin*

This #girlboss has a long list of adventures, accomplishments, and beautiful moments that make her unique. From traveling to Ireland to meeting Selena Gomez, we’re excited to see what other fabulous things are in store for her. Her blog posts are heartwarmingly relatable, and she considers every type of budget and style when writing for her readers. We’re inspired by her and can’t wait to see how much she inspires you.

Caitlin spoke with us about how complicated confidence is, the battles she fought with it, and how she’s keeping it in her life now.

VV: Year in school and major?
C: I’m a senior in college and I’m majoring in fashion merchandising.

VV: Favorite trend and outfit?
C: My favorite trends are floral prints and matte lipstick! I also love wearing dresses anytime of the year, they’re such an easy way to look pulled together with little effort.

VV: Favorite music artists and/or albums?
C: My favorite album right now is Revival by Selena Gomez. My favorite artists right now are Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Nick Jonas.

VV: What makes you feel like a #girlboss?
C: I feel most like a girl boss when I accomplish something I’ve been working on for a while. Whether it be an exam in school, or an article I’ve been working on for a while. When I see myself succeed it gives me motivation to keep trying. It doesn’t matter if it’s something small on a day-to-day basis or something bigger like an article I mentioned before.

VV: What made you struggle with your confidence, and what has helped you gain confidence back?
C: I gained a lot of confidence when I stopped comparing myself to people, whether it was pictures of models/celebrities on Instagram or real life. I see it as, clothing stores make many different sizes, so we’re obviously not supposed to meet a one size fits all image for a perfect body. I think it’s very important for young women to realize this and be happy with the body they’re given.

VV: Has anyone specific inspired you to become more confident?
C: Celebrities like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have inspired me to become more confident. Both of them have gone through struggles and came out stronger than ever! I really look up to that because they helped me realize that there are so many body types and it’s ok to be happy with the body you have!

VV: Why is it so important to empower other women?
C: I think it’s important to empower women because we live in a world today where people are constantly being judged against each other and compared. It’s important to realize that everyone needs to be themselves and not worry what other think. By women supporting each other, we can show that you can be successful without fitting in a certain mold and help society get lout of the constant judgmental cycle we’re stuck in.

Thank you so much to Caitlin for your words and inspiring us and many other women.
